the night that was

it was another night i shall never fully remember, except that i know it was loads and heaps of fun....and it was the eve of my sister Debbie's birthday.

sporting a major hangover (5 or 6 glasses of vodka and 2 shots of tequila - i think), i had to drag myself to work today. i just feel like a freaking zombie.

but i'm not complaining. there's nothing like being in the company of young, free-spirited, fun-loving, crazy people - exactly the kind of people, majority of whom i have only met for the first time, that my sister had invited.

so there we were in a hotel room, 13 or 15 intoxicated and loud bunch of guys and gals, with music pumped up, and it wasn't any surprise that we received a complaint. if i were the same old vina, meaning uptight and (semi) conservative, i would have freaked out. but then again, if i were the same old vina, i wouldn't have been in that party anyway. my sister wouldn't have invited me.

but she did invite me, and for that i am thankful.

in her words, i'm a cool sister.

cool is great. i wouldn't want to have it any other way.

Happy Birthday Deb! I love you and I'll always be here for you.

drinks or no drinks.

i can't wait

to hold you...to feel you...to taste you...

to be one with you...

to be intoxicated by you.

you are not going to disappoint me. Absolut(e)ly not.

erm.

just talking about the Absolut Vodka (and then some) that i'll be drinking in my sister Debbie's birthday bash tomorrow, people....

i just got carried away by the mere thought of the ecstasy it shall bring me.

oh, stop already.

the absent cat

goody! my boss is on leave!

usually, it's my cue to take a break myself, but just having that singapore trip, i kind of drained my so-called resources...*sob*

soooooo, while the cat is away...the mouse will grab these opportunities to:

a> go home early...as in, not exceeding the usual 12-hours-in-the-office-out-of-love-and-loyalty duty

b> have that required company executive check-up...aaaargh, the annual hospital torture *shudder*

c> finally take that years-overdue driving lesson...just 5 hours, vina. just 5 hours. and you're (hopefully) good to go.

well.

that seems like a serious list. the mouse is supposed to play, dammit!

no worries, though. the mouse actually plays, and plays better with the cat around.

the lala night continues

some threesome...

in the continuing saga of my late-bloomer chronicles, the girls and i had our 2nd lala night last friday.

the question for the night, one that made my intoxicated brain ponder - but only for a few seconds, was asked by my sister: "How come we have only been doing this recently?"

yeah...how come?

aaaah, questions, questions, questions....no need to ask questions.

i hit 30 and i realized - life is too short to ask questions.

just be. just enjoy. carpe diem.

that's actually not the answer i gave then...but that just sounds better.

p.s. i hope these pictures don't reach our moms.

call center agent wannabe

oh, you are so cruel! whoever you are who divulged this otherwise classified information (well, not really).

and i'm just so evil to even share this with you.

click here and here to view these excerpts from an entrance examination essay/questionnaire of a call center applicant ("she" for brevity).

needless to say, i don't think she made the cut.

and whoever she is...peace, dawg.

and better luck next time.

Your Love is King
Sade

Your love is king
Crown you with my heart
Your love is king
Never need to part
Your kisses ring
Round and round and round my head
Touching the very part of me
It's making my soul sing
Tearing the very heart of me
I'm crying out for more
Your love is king
Crown you with my heart
Your love is king
You're the ruler of my heart
Your kisses ring
Round and round and round my head
Touching the very part of me
It's making my soul sing
I'm crying out for more
Your love is king

I'm coming on
I'm coming
You're making me dance
Inside

Your love is king
Crown you with my heart
Your love is king
Never need to part
Your kisses ring
Round and round and round my head
Touching the very part of me
It's making my soul sing
Tearing the very heart of me
I'm crying out for more

Touching the very part of me
It's making my soul sing
I'm crying out for more

there's always the first time

ever since i permanently set foot here in manila almost 4 years ago, i only knew binondo to be divisoria and 168 malls - but that all changed when i had a taste of my first, real chinatown trip last Saturday, courtesy of fellow bloggers Eric and Ms. Ajay!

we met up at Binondo Church, and because the rain suddenly poured like crazy, we initially took shelter at nearby Cafe Mezzanine for some coffee and introductory talks. it was the first time for Eric and Ajay to meet, and my first time to meet Eric!

we then proceeded to a small dumpling/dimsum eatery along Yuchengco St. named Dong Bei, where everything was made fresh, right in front of you! we ordered a mix of kutchay (chives) and pork dumplings - 13 pieces for only P100!

now, i really don't eat vegetables or anything vegetable-like for that matter (go figure), but boy, did i devour those kutchay dumplings!

after some detour to purchase chinatown goodies such as tea eggs, fried siopao and Salazar bakery products, we headed to popular estero to have our dirt-cheap (no pun intended) but super delicious lunch. there wasn't really any, erm, smell, wafting through the air, but we still opted to eat at the 2nd floor/airconditioned area of Grand House, which is the first among the rows of eatery you'll see once you descend the stairs. for our order of fried rice, hototay soup, fish with tausi and salt & pepper pork, we only paid around P120 each! hmmmm, maybe i shouldn't mention that Ajay and Eric finished it all up...yeah, maybe i shouldn't mention that.

to wrap up the rainy chinatown food trip, Ajay brought us to Pansiteria Lido for its great tasting brewed coffee. mmmmm, for a non-coffee drinker like me, i didn't mind at all! it was delicious indeed! but i made a mental note to try that famous pugon-roasted asado.

next time - via LRT.

must be the weather

It's crazy , I'm thinking, just knowing that the world is round.

I'm here I'm dancing on the ground.

Am I right side up or upside down.

And is this real, or am I dreaming?

binondo trip primer

hehe. would you have noticed if i didn't encircle it?

of course you did...you should have. *evil eye*

that is posted on the toilet door of Grand House eatery in Estero, Ongpin. yes, the famous estero, with its unbeatable ambience and excellent location - right by the Ongpin creek, or is it canal?

it was one of the itinerary of my first, real chinatown trip last saturday, organized by Eric of Byahilo, a fellow Bacolodnon and La Sallian, together with Ms. Ajay of Writings on the Wall, who works in the same company as i do.

suffice to say, i felt like a certified blogger, having met these two, popular, talented and blogosphere-seasoned persons (whew, i really thought long and hard for those descriptions)!

food trip was the main goal, and that we somehow accomplished despite the uncooperative weather (read: rain, rain, rain). but what made me happiest?

i finally learned how to use the LRT.

and now, i find no excuse in not going to Binondo whenever i feel like.

not-so-typical rollercoaster

i've been riding in a rollercoaster of emotions lately.

you can just watch me, or you can ride with me...

High
James Blunt

Beautiful dawn - lights up the shore for me.

There is nothing else in the world

I'd rather wake up and see (with you).

Beautiful dawn - I'm just chasing time again.

Thought I would die a lonely man, in endless night.

But now I'm high; running wild among all the stars above.

Sometimes it's hard to believe you remember me.

Beautiful dawn - melt with the stars again.

Do you remember the day when my journey began?

Will you remember the end (of time)?

Beautiful dawn - you're just blowing my mind again.

Thought I was born to endless night, until you shine.

High; running wild among all the stars above.

Sometimes it's hard to believe you remember me.

Will you be my shoulder when I'm gray and older?

Promise me tomorrow starts with you,

Getting high; running wild among all the stars above.

Sometimes it's hard to believe you remember me.

not-so-typical sunday night

hmmmm, i didn't know that wine and Lala fish crackers go together...

me, april and debbie

well, maybe it depends on the where and the with whom. and last night, it was just in our flat, with us girls, with great music full blast.

aaaah, to feel so young and alive at 30.

it's scary.

let the games begin

this one's for you, Neko.

coming in on the heel of yesterday's hotdog eating competition in Coney Island, NY, i was thinking...

IF YOU WERE TO JOIN A FOOD EATING COMPETITION OF YOUR CHOICE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

well, mine would be...PASTA!

pasta, pasta, pasta! and not just the short kind of pasta. i love them looong. *chuckles*

spaghetti, spaghettini, linguini and what-have-you. tomato-based or cream-based, as long as it's done the Italian way.

so bring it on

and let's get it oooon!

(that's not me in the picture, but that's probably how i'd look like in the competition, anyway)

weiner war winner

wow.

53 3/4 hotdogs in 12 minutes for this year's Independence Day hotdog eating competition in Coney Island, NY.

should i say congratulations Japan? or perhaps, well done Takeru Kobayashi (whose stomach in the picture looks like that of a turtle's, by the way)?

erm, maybe not.

excuse me, i feel like throwing up.

but before that...is nathan's famous hotdog delicious?

darn, that didn't come out right.

but you know what i mean. you do, right?

X-tra! X-tra!

soooo, yummy Hugh Jackman has just confirmed that he will do a Wolverine spinoff, tentatively due for release next year. but we sort of expected that already, didn't we?

now, whether another Xmen movie is in the works or not, the question is: who will it be for you? Xmen or Wolverine?

as for me, i'll follow Hugh (and his aussie accent) anywhere he goes...

still a sh*tty tuesday

"When you reach an advanced age and look back over your lifetime, it can seem to have had a consistent order and plan, as though composed by some novelist. can you tell me how to get to Sesame Street?

i didn't grow up on Sesame Street or on any TV program for that matter. boohoo, i wasn't allowed to watch TV for most part of my childhood...

hell, i didn't know that Elmo is supposed to be the show's most popular/favorite character (is he?), and that he has a sweet, cutesy voice!

and i didn't know, till last week while watching the Oprah Winfrey Show, that a big, African-American 40-something year old guy named Kevin Clash, is the Muppeteer behind red, furry, cuddly Elmo.

but i bet you also didn't know that, huh?

or did you?

darn.
